The Down Syndrome Association of South Texas provides support for our families in a variety of ways.
When a new family contacts the DSASTX, they are registered in our database and, with permission, added to our mailing list in order to receive information on the programs and support groups available.
We offer support for families through the following groups:
- New and Expectant Parents
- MOMS
- DADS
- Siblings
- Spanish Support
- Parent Education
We also offer a variety of programs and activities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families from birth through adulthood.
The DSASTX may also pair a new family with a Parent Mentor. Parent Mentors give the family someone to "lean on", as well as help them navigate through the information and resources available in the world of Down syndrome. Whenever possible we pair our new family with a family that has similar medical issues or circumstances which helps facilitate shared knowledge and a solid support structure for the new parents. As a result, both families share an instant bond and add more people to their personal support systems.
In addition to the mentor family, the DSASTX staff and our community of families are always available to share information and support. We are never more than a phone call or keystroke away!
